Winter is coming, well, not yet [about time it leaves us for
spring], but the autumn/ winter collections are here. The Amazon India Fashion
Week 2015 saw some amazing autumn/winter
collections, but as always some stood out more than others. So how about I cut to the chase and just cover
the stand outs, so we can get on with
making space in our wardrobes.
Malini Ramani - Free Spirit
Breakdown: Black, dark shades and earthy tones with
beautiful clusters of floral motifs,
zardosi and other embellishments
on drapes which are not only a delight visually but seem like would be
extremely flattering once worn too [on us not-model types].
Hemant & Nandita – Boho Caravan
Breakdown: True to the title, BOHO. Their Gulmarg inspiration really shines
through in their use of textures, colours, patterns and prints, in some refreshing
cuts and layers.
Anju Modi – How to
Write A Fairytale
Even if you don’t read the title of her
autumn couture line, the first thing you think is still ‘Fairytale’. Completely different from her
usual style, Anju Modi transported us to a land far, far away with these west
meets east- mix match fairy-tale ensembles.
Breakdown: rich voluminous fabrics, muted colours, powder blues to loud reds, big curly hair heads wearing crowns, embroidery and
prints sewn into dreams.
JJ Valaya - Bolshoi Bazaar
Taking from the Russian Bolshoi theater and
with a massive Matryoshka doll as it’s backdrop JJ Valaya
put on a magnificent show at the AIFW.
Breakdown:
Russia meets India, silks, veils, over the top headgear and faux fur accessories,
deep blues, bright pinks, paler shades too, gold patterns & textures
with a lot of beautiful zardosi embroidery.
Nikasha – Ruby
I have a soft corner for anything Japanese
or Japanese inspired which is why Nikasha’s collection Ruby was a personal
favourite. Winters don't seem so bad when you have these lovelies waiting in your winter wardrobe.
Breakdown:
Shades of Red, Beige and Yellow, cherry blossoms, kimono shawls and fluid
drapes.
